We tried out Chez Patrick after a rare, earlier Friday night off work. The chef came by our table and introduced with rather painstaking detail how the off-menu dishes were prepared. I finally understand it now (with K’s wisdom), why those grand gestures were necessary — They were efforts to reach someone, and it required trying really hard to have an effect, be it trying to make them understand that you care, or trying to make them love you back. Which of course, isn’t possible.
